Working again with Archer Office, this residential project brought together the old and the new.
A modern addition to an existing semi-detached, see’s an influx of light and the blurring of interior and exterior living. Natural materials enabled the home to feel an escape from the bustle of the city, a mere 10 minutes away, and the abundant use of local light warranted perfection in the finishes and fixtures of all surfaces.
Spotted Gum was used throughout, ageing gracefully to achieve a delicate patina. Reclaimed Baltic Pine from remnants of an existing room was used to create the almost floating staircase. The highlight of the show however, is the cantilevered boundary at the rear of the build, enabling oversized triple and quad sliders to meet with no immediate structural support, highlighting the absolute need these days for inside/outside and open plan living.
The Wine Quarter
Making the step into the commercial sector, SHOREBUILD teamed with the renowned architects at Archer Office to deliver the fit-out of ‘The Wine Quarter’, a multipurpose space for gatherings and events held by Woolworths Liquor Group.
Though the client is typically corporate, the space are anything but. Large atrium-like expanses, connect smaller individual rooms, that, although serve separate purposes, are intimately connected through the use of veil like tensioned chord that gives hints to the original heritage listed 1960s brickwork.
The attention to detail is fastidious. The transition between a perfectly modern polished concrete floor and the mixed elements of tensioned chord and aged brickwork is without pause.

This beautiful array of shapes and structure subtly commands attention form every angle.
Built with a passion for not only sustainable living but passive design, this five bedroom home encapsulates the local surround.
Designed by Marrah + Yeh and built not only to invite the best of the Australian environment, but also to encourage family life in its intimate design. The materials used and the colours rendered give this home soul and a feeling of familiarity with the owners.
Being built almost entirely of sustainable timber, Spotted Gum gives warmth to the exterior and is delicately offset with the simplicity of neutrally painted shadow-clad. But the devil is in the detail; the origami like folds in the roofline and the cladding mimic the gentle slope of the surrounding terrain. The shift from horizontal, vertical and even angled surfaces is without pause and reflects the tenacity of the trades involved.

When Fiona and Stuart Frith decided to renovate their Castlecrag home last year they had a clear idea of what they wanted: something quick, affordable and sustainable. A pre-fabricated modular system, increasingly popular for those very reasons, seemed practical and ideal.
Balancing this pragmatic approach was the couple’s enthusiasm for something extraordinarily lovely – Renzo Piano’s Aurora Place in Macquarie Street, or rather, the commercial/residential buildings’ much admired terracotta tiles.
